Nike Commercial: There is No Finish Line

Let’s just say I am soon becoming a John Maxwell student and this blog is inspired by another book of his you should check out, The 15 Invaluable laws of growth.

Robert J.Kriegel and Louis Pattler; “The potential that exists within us is limitless and largely untapped…when you think of limits, you create them.”

We do not have a a clue as to what people’s limits are. All the tests, stopwatches and finish lines in the world cannot measure human potential.

According to experts, people typically use 10% of their true potential, it is as if we possess hundreds of acres of possibilities but keep only half an acre under cultivation. How do we tap into the unused 90%? By changing how we think and what we do.

Oliver Wendall Holmes; “Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions”

The author argues that we live in a culture that awards trophies to people for simply showing up regardless of their contribution and because of that, many people think they are doing well if they just do what is expected of them. This does not help people reach their potential or expand their capacity.

As an individual you have to ask more from yourself than others ask, believe more in yourself that others do, expect more from yourself, give more, help more just do more than is asked, that is how you measure progress and expansion of your capacity. You will be amazed at how much you are capable of doing once you let your guards down.

I read a quote somewhere that says you will not achieve much in life by playing it safe all the time. Humanly speaking, we are more comfortable trading at the shallow end of the waters nobody wants to get in the deeper end, there is so much uncertainty and risking to be done but that seems to be the only way to grow and experience our best selves besides the shallow end is too congested, only the risk takers cross that boundary and they are few.

Henry David Thoreau; “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will pass an invisible boundary, new universal and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him and he will live with he license of a higher order of beings”

As Nike’s commercial runs, ‘There Is No Finish Line.’ Keep climbing!

I am The Sparrow.
